MEET THE TEAM
Here are the team members and a little bit about them so you can get to know us.
Position: Driver/ Public Relations
Deidre is a junior and has been with the
team for two years. She has been a huge part of the team and an asset to have when it comes to getting sponsors. Deidre is also captain of the all girls
Daniel is a junior and joined our team at the beginning of this year. He is a great asset and quickly adapted to the electrical environment and is now considered the right hand of the head of electrical. Daniel is also in Math UIL here at Southwest High School.
Position: Head Design
Sean is a junior and joined the team at the end of the first year. This year he is head of the design team and has crafted a masterpiece for us to build. Sean has a passion for music
Position: Head Public Relation
Adriana is a junior and joined the team at the beginning of its second year. She had been a huge asset in the PR department writing several elegant and well written letters and emails to many important figures such as the mayor. Adriana is also a part of HOSA and the Nanotechnology Team and has experience with Electrical.
Position: Project Manager
Ronni is a senior and has been on the team for two years now. She is hoping to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in calibration engineering at either Texas A&M or MIT. She is ranked 5th in her class, is a varsity volleyball player, in Rocket club, Theater, Ballet, and president of the Alternative Energy STEM club.
Emily was a previous member who was apart of the team for a year. She is a big part of the electrical team. Emily is a varsity cheerleader and is also on the stem robotics team.
Mr. Oscar Castaneda
Mr. Castaneda is the Calculous I & II DC, Statistics, and Pre- Cal teacher. He is a the bridge that all students are looking for between in the classroom and real world application. He has been a wonderful new addition to the team this year bring not only himself and all his knowledge but also the Alternative Energy Engineering Team.
Position: Head of Mechanical
Ryan is a junior and has been apart of the
team since day one. He has become well versed in mechanics and can put the car together with his eyes shut if he had to. Ryan is also part of the nano technology club.
Position: Head of Electrical
Isaac is a junior and has been apart of the team for two years now. He is extremely dedicated to the program.Isaac enjoys playing soccer when ever he's not charging batteries. He wants to become an electrical engineer but hasn't decided what college he would like to attend, but he does know that he would like to work at NASA or Southwest Research Center. Isaac is also in the Machining program at St. Phillips College.
Jesse is a junior that joined the team towards the end of the first year. Jesse is a great asset and gets things done. Jesse is also part of the Mariachi here at Southwest and is in the Aero-space program at St. Phillips College and is also VP of Film Club.
Tristen is a sophomore and joined our team towards the middle of this year. He is an outstanding student and is cirtified in Arc Welding and in Mig 3F. Tristen has a lot to offer
Fred is a Senior and has just recently joined our team. He has three years of hands-on experience in welding and is now certified in 3G Structural Steel Certification and F3 Mig Certification. He is a great asset to our team and made our metal frame possible. In the future he hopes to start his own Steel Fabrication Shop.
Mr. Robert Franz
Position: Engineering Advisor
Mr. Franz is the head advisor for S.W.E.T. Without Mr. Franz this program would not be here. Mr. Franz vast experience in STEM programs have dramatically helped spearhead our engineering projects. He brings tremendous experience to the table. His mentorship is pivotal to all facets of S.W.E.T.
Mr. Kurtis Koop
Position: Past Advisor
Mr. Koop is a previous advisor and mentor of S.W.E.T, he was one of the founders of the program and a huge asset to the team. He taught the students how to weld,fabricate, and use a plasma cutter. He brought a remarkable amount of knowledge and vast set of skills that he patiently taught to each and every student.
